Overview

La Loncherita is a cherished Mexican eatery nestled at 113 W Front St, Harvard, IL. This unassuming spot captures the heart of authentic Mexican flavors with a focus on classic tacos that have earned it a loyal following. From the moment you step inside, you enter a realm where simplicity and quality reign.

The menu centers on a succinct yet satisfying selection. The al pastor tacos stand out as the clear stars, marinated pork imbued with smoky, mildly spicy notes that perfectly embody traditional Mexican street food. Equally notable are the steak tacos served with cheese and lettuce, and the taco asada, which offer rich, well-seasoned meats that pair beautifully with fresh beans and rice, staples that complete the meal. Fresh tomato-based salsas and soft drinks round out the experience, reinforcing the no-frills, genuine dining ethos.

Though the interior is modest, with limited seating and dim lighting, it reflects an authentic lonchería vibe—a small, intimate space where the focus is on the food rather than ambiance. This minimalist setting suits those who crave quick, hearty meals rather than elaborate presentations. The simplicity extends to the service approach; customers typically order at a back window or counter and often take initiative with sauces and extras, which adds a laid-back, self-reliant feel to the visit.

La Loncherita’s target audience includes locals and travelers passing through Harvard seeking an honest taste of Mexican street cuisine. Regulars praise the freshness of the pico de gallo and the friendly, if occasionally brusque, staff. While the atmosphere might not appeal to those expecting polished decor or formal service, those who cherish down-to-earth flavors and an authentic dining experience will find this hidden gem unmatched in Illinois.

In conclusion, La Loncherita offers a slice of genuine Mexican culinary tradition within a humble setting. Its tacos, especially the al pastor, deliver bold, fresh flavors that resonate with all who appreciate straightforward, expertly prepared food. If authenticity and taste guide your choices, this is a spot worth discovering.

Usually a hole in the wall restaurant usually turns out to be a gem. But not this one, this one is beyond a gem; this has the best tacos in Illinois. One of the workers, a really grumpy old man, came up to us with an attitude, not even politely and told us that we needed to buy something. But it was the way that he looked at us and spoke to us that told me that I should get the tacos. So we ordered some chicken tacos they were super plain. Get the El Pastor tacos; obviously. We weren’t even offered sauce or anything with it; you have to get it yourself; like capitalism; don’t complain if you dont look out for yourself. The seats had a really old cushions. The restaurant has really bad lighting as well. The whole place is just dark. Best taco shop in Illinois.

We had only a few minutes before our train departed and needed food and bathroom. The lady working was super nice and helpful and placed an order for me and my travel companion. Super clean bathroom. Made it with plenty of time to get on the train and had a tasty steak taco to tide us over. Thank you!

A small friendly Mexican grocery store with kitchen in the back. There's only a few stools and a couple tables to sit at, but place your order at the back window and wait to get the best tacos you've ever had. Great salsa's and everything is fresh and made to order.

Very friendly people working here. The pico de gallo that is fresh made here is one the best I've ever had, and very fair priced for its size. I come here often.

Are here twice in 3 days. Legitimately one of the two most authentic Mexican steak tacos I’ve had in Wisconsin. The food comes out insanely hot and fresh. It was incredible. The staff was absolutely fantastic and knows their Mexican cuisine. They went above and beyond. This place is a hidden gem and my wife has insisted we’ll be coming back, again!
